Montgomery Remembers

11th November Armistice Day

At the Garden of Remembrance
2023

On 11th November, Montgomery residents joined ex-servicemen, the Mayor and other Councillors to participate in two minutes' silence and a moment of reflection for Armistice Day.

The short ceremony was led by Revd. Paulette Gower and the Last Post and Reveille were played by bugler Bill Ridley. The national flags were held by veterans Commander Michael Jordan RN and Captain Paul Hodgson. Paul read the Laurence Binyon Exhortation and Chris Boundy gave the Kohima Epitaph.

Mayor Wendy Beaven said, “We honoured the fallen at the 11th hour of the 11th day.” She added a note of thanks: “Ted Edwards who has maintained the garden for many years is stepping back from duties next year and his replacement will find him a hard act to follow, as the gardens have been a joy to many and are a credit to his expertise in hedge cutting.”
