Montgomery Town Council

Montgomery Town Council delivers some services and amenities such as children’s playgrounds at Tan y Mur and Gaol Rd, grass cutting of some areas, maintenance at the Whitegate Pool wildlife and picnic area, public conveniences and tourism information. It also owns and supports the Georgian Town Hall which is a feature of the town’s Broad Street, and is managed for the community by the Montgomery Community Buildings Preservation Trust.

The Council manages the weekly Thursday Montgomery Market, and Saturday morning community coffee mornings, and provides public toilet facilities to the rear of the building.
Powys County Council is responsible for services such as education, environmental health, waste disposal, social services and planning for the whole county. (The Town Council is a statutory consultee on planning matters, and can make recommendations but not decisions.)

Community and town councillors can represent a political party or be politically independent. Currently, all the Montgomery Town Councillors are independent councillors. Vacancies are filled by election or co-option.

The full Council meets monthly on a Thursday evening (except in August and December) and Committees of the Council meet at other times. Council and Committee meetings are open to the public, and the meeting details and agendas are posted on the Council noticeboard (between the Spar and chip shop) at least 3 days prior to the meeting (Sunday not included), and on this website.

The community news team also lists Council meetings in advance on the What's On calendar. Please filter on the category "Council and civic".
For certain confidential matters, the press and public are excluded from the meeting, and this is made clear on the agenda which is available from our Documents Store (Link to the left and on the menu of this page)

Montgomery Town Council is funded by a precept, which is a small portion of residents' Council Tax. The precept and how it is used is determined at a Council meeting annually, in November or December. Council minutes, policies, procedures and other documents are made available on this website (link in the panel to the left). Minutes are also archived and available to view in Montgomery Library.

Contact the Town Council via the Town Clerk (townclerk@montgomery-wales.uk / M: 07846 269021).
Contact details for the Clerk and individual Councillors can be found on the Councillors and Contacts link on the left hand menu or above.

The Contact Us button to the left can also be used to get in touch. The contact form goes through to our two volunteers from our news and events team, one of whom will respond to you, though they cannot speak or act on behalf of the Town Council as a body. If they can help with straightforward information or actions they will.
If the matter needs to be dealt with by the Clerk or Council, they will pass on your completed contact form and let you know that this is the case.
